Importance of polyester with its uses

Polyester

Polyester is a special type of polymer that contains the ester functional group in the main chain. It is a specific material, it refers to a type called polyethylene terephthalate (PET). It is sometimes combined with natural fibers to create a fabric with blended properties.

Importance of polyester

Polyester is very important for the textile industry, such the following-

1. Relatively easy accessible raw materials are PTA or DMT and MEG

2. A general chemical process of polyester synthesis has been very well understood and described

3. Low toxicity levels of all raw materials and by-products during polyester production and processing

4. Possibility of PET production in closed-loop in emissions to the environment

5. Outstanding mechanical and chemical properties of polyester

6. Reusability

7. A wide range of intermediate and final products made with polyester.

Uses of polyester

Polyester the fabric has different uses like below-

1. Polyester is used to reinforce car tires, fabrics for conveyor belts, safety belts, coated fabrics, and plastic reinforcement with high energy absorption.

2. Polyester threads or yarns are widely used in clothing and home furnishings.

3. It is used to cushion and insulate material in pillows, comforters, and upholstery padding.

4. Polyester fabric is highly stain-resistant.

5. It is used for making different types of bottles, films, tarpaulins, sails (dacrons), canoes, liquid crystal displays, holograms, filters, a dielectric film for capacitors, film insulation for wires, and insulating tapes.

6. Polyesters are widely used as high-quality wood products such as guitars, pianos, and finishes for vehicle/yacht interiors.

7. Curing polyesters can be sanded and polished to a high-gloss, durable finish.
