Chiffon fabric
Chiffon fabric is a
lightweight, balanced plain-woven sheer fabric like gossamer, alternative S- twist, and Z-twist crepe high-twisted yarn. The twist in
the crepe yarns throws the fabric a bit on both sides after weaving, giving it
a somewhat stretched and somewhat rough feeling. Chiffon fabric is commonly used in
evening wear, especially as an overlay, to give the gown an elegant and
floating look. It is a popular fabric used in blouses, ribbons, scarves, and
underwear. Like other crepe fabrics, chiffon fabric is difficult to work
with due to its light and slippery texture. For this
reason, chiffon fabric needs to be washed very slowly.
History
Early
chiffon fabric was made from pure silk. A nylon version of chiffon was
invented in 1938, following the creation of polyester chiffon in 1958, which became
widely popular due to its resilience and low cost. Underneath the magnifying
glass, the chiffon resembles a fine mesh that gives it some transparency.

Silk crepe chiffon

single cropped yarn in both the case of tightly warp and weft. Sometimes it is
called crepe chiffon. This fabric is highly suitable for special occasion
dresses, scarves, nightgowns, and linings. Chiffon is soft and thinner than
Georgette.
