Twill fabric

Twill fabric is a type of textile fabric that is weaved with a pattern of diagonal parallel ribs. It is one of the three main types of textile weaves, twine with satin and plain weaves. The distinctive feature of twill weaving is a diagonal rib pattern. Twill fabric weaves have a distinct, often darker front with a lighter back. The twill fabric has a high thread count which means the fabric is opaque, dense, and durable. Twill fabrics are rarely printed, although multiple colored yarns can be used to achieve designs such as tweed and houndstooth. In regular twill fabric, the diagonal line is repeated regularly, usually running from left to right at a 45° angle.

Twill fabric characteristics

1. Twill fabrics technically have front and back sides, as opposed to plain weaves, both sides of which are the same. The back is called the technical back and the front of the twill is called the technical face.

4. According to nature and twill line, these are three types-

i. Simple warp or weft twill: Every warp thread passes under only one weft called simple warp twill and every weft thread passes over only one warp thread in a twill weave, which is called simple weft twill.

ii. Expended twill: There is no one up or one down in this type of twill.

iii. Multiple twills: If in fabric there is more than one twill line in the repeat, it is called multiple twills.

Twill fabric weaving process

In a twill weave, each weft or yarn fills across the warp yarn in the progress of the wing or left interconnection filling, forming a pattern of distinct diagonal lines.
