Costing
Costing is a very complex process, with set patterns
and guidelines followed by the industry, and it is difficult to find out the
cost for each process where there is some built-in cost. Garment costs include
all activities such as the purchase of raw materials and accessories, fabric
weaving, fabric processing, finishing, sewing, garment packing, transport,
transportation, shipping, overheads, banking charges, commissions, etc. In
general, apparel traders and the top management of a garment company are
actively involved in pricing apparel. The garment industry follows various
strategies for determining costs.
Factors that affect denim costing
Factors that have effects on cost are fabric, trims, accessories, and other decoration costs, storage, cutting, making, trimming costs, clothing testing, commercial costs, financial costs, shipment costs, and manufacturer's profit. These special factors greatly influence the making of a garment. There are many sub-factors in these eight factors. Fabric is the most important element for making a particular garment and about 50% of the cost is required for the fabric. Some of the factors that affect the price of fabric are fabric GSM, the quantity of fabric, the nature of the fabric, length/width, shrinkage, country of origin, and market demand. The cost of trim accessories and other decorations is most important in preparing a final cost sheet. From the point of view of clothing where the fabric is kept before the process of making it is called the store which also affects cost. Thus, the sewing, cutting, and sewing thread has an effect on the cost. Different types of tests such as colorfastness test, construction test, performance test, strength and stretch test, water-resistance / rain test, accessories test, print durability, the appearance of clothing after cleaning, pocket reinforcement, dimensional change after home laundering test. Cost of clothing Commercial cost means additional cost excluding CM cost. Sometimes you have to pay for transportation like shipping by courier to the buyer and this cost includes the commercial cost. Financial cost refers to the cost that the company incurs through operations, from factory costs to surcharges below the supply chain. Prices of raw materials, semi-finished products, and fully finished products, including administrative costs such as rent, salaries, insurance, and utilities. Highly related to the cost of various shipping terms such as FOB, CNF, and CIF. The profit of producer is also responsible for the cost.

CM Costing
If the factory's direct and indirect cost per month is $ 250,000, the total line is 10, the number of machines per line is 60, the total number of machines is 600, the number of working days per month is 26, output per line output 150 pcs per hour, daily working hours 8 hours. So, our CM cost is as follows,
Average cost per machine per day= Total Direct & Indirect Cost/(Total no. of Machine × No. working day per month)=250,000/(600×26)=16.03
Line cost per day= per day (8 hours) machine cost × No of machine per line= 16.03 × 60 = 961.8
Actual output per line per day= Working hour per day x Output per hour= 8 x 150 =1200
CM cost per piece = Line cost per day/Actual Output per line per day= 961.8/1200=$0.80
Total CM cost= Total CM cost + (add profit 20% of CM cost is) = $0.80 + $0.16 = $0.96

Physical tests such as fabric count, seam slippage, yarn count, fabric weight, colorfastness to crocking, crease retention, colorfastness to rubbing, stretch, and recovery, colorfastness to water, abrasion resistance, sea watercolor stability, soil release, colorfastness to phenolic yellowing, cpsia, colorfastness from non-chlorine bleach, spiral/twist, spirality test, tear strength, smoothness retention, tensile strength, pilling resistance, button attachment strength. Lab Tests such as Formaldehyde, Absorbency Test, pH, Humidity Test, AZO test, etc.
