What does the Qur'an say about sacrifice?
Sacrifice
is the slaughtering of an animal on a certain day in the hope of gaining
Allah's pleasure and reward. Sacrifice is not only a sacrifice but also a
unique sign of the servant's love for Allah. It is also called Qurbani. There are clear guidelines in
several verses of the Qur'an regarding this sacrifice as a means of approaching
Allah.
Allah
says, ‘But remember! The flesh or blood of the sacrifice does not reach Allah,
only your sincere Allah awareness reaches Allah. For this purpose, the
sacrificial animals have been brought under your control. So proclaim the glory
of Allah for the good that He has bestowed on you by His guidance. O Prophet!
Give glad tidings to the doers of good that Allah will save the believers.
Surely Allah does not like the traitor and ungrateful. '(Surah Hajj: verses
37-38)
First sacrifice
The
history of sacrifice is very ancient. The incident of Abel and Cain in the
Qur'an is proof of that. This is the first sacrifice in Islam. Abel was the
first man to sacrifice an animal for Allah. According to religious accounts,
Abel was a sheep and his brother Cain dedicated some of his crops to the
Creator.
Patterns of acceptance of sacrifices
At
that time, the law or method prescribed by Allah was that fire would come down
from the sky and take the things of the one whose sacrifice was accepted. That
is, the fire will burn that thing to ashes. Accordingly, fire coming down from
heaven receives the sacrifice of the slaughtered animal of the righteous Abel.
On the other hand, the sacrifices made by Kabil as a crop were rejected.
Provision of sacrifice
Later,
Allah instructed the Prophet and Messenger of Islam, the father of the Muslim
nation, Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him) to sacrifice his favorite object in
a dream, saying, ‘Sacrifice your favorite object in the name of Allah. As soon
as Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was commanded, he sacrificed 10 camels
for the sake of Allah. But again he received orders to sacrifice. Then he again
sacrificed 100 camels.
Even
then he received the same order and thought, the most beloved thing to me at
this moment is the son Ismail (peace be upon him). Besides, there is no other
favorite object. Then he left for the mina to sacrifice Hazrat Ismail (peace be
upon him). When Hazrat Ibrahim tried to stab his son in the neck to sacrifice
him, he was surprised to see that an animal had been sacrificed instead of
Ishmael (peace be upon him) and he had not been harmed.
In
commemoration of this historic religious event, Muslims around the world
celebrate Eid al-Adha every year to gain the pleasure of Allah. In Islam, the
12th lunar month of the Hijri calendar is defined as the time of sacrifice from
the 10th to the 12th of the month of Jilhaj. On this day, Muslims all over the
world offer sacrifices for the sake of Allah.
Sacrifice
is to be close to someone. To be martyred in the way of Allah in a broad sense.
Sacrificing one's wealth, time, effort, and effort for religious purposes
according to the provisions of Allah is also called sacrifice in the way of
Allah.
Quran verses about sacrifice
Through
animal sacrifice, people become close to God. Sacrifice is a provision of
Islam, religious heritage, and cultural heritage. Korban or Azha has been
mentioned as an Islamic provision. Which is to be observed during the holy
Eid-ul-Azha festival by sacrificing animals for the sake of Allah. In many
places in the Holy Qur'an, there are clear guidelines for sacrifice. Such as-
i.
‘And complete Hajj and Umrah for Allah. Then if you get stuck, the animal will
be easier (slaughter it). And do not shave your heads until the beast has
reached its proper place. And if any one of you is ill or has any pain in his
head, he should pay the ransom through fasting or charity, or animal slaughter.
And when you are safe, then whoever performs tamattu after performing hajj
after umrah, then slaughter the animal which is easy for him. But whoever does
not get it, should fast for three days, and when you return, fast for seven
days. This is the full ten. This provision is for those whose family is not a
resident of Masjidul Haram. And fear Allah and know! Surely Allah is severe in
requiting (evil).’ (Surat al-Baqara: Ayat 196)
ii.
'And narrate to them the story of the two sons of Adam (Abel-Cain), when they
both offered sacrifices. Then the (sacrifice) was accepted by one of them and
not by the other. He said, "Of course, I will kill you." Another
said, "Allah only accepts (the sacrifice) from the pious." (Surat
al-Ma'ida: 27)
iii.
'Say: Surely my prayer and my sacrifice and my life and my death are for Allah,
the Lord of the worlds. ‘He has no partner and I have been instructed to do so.
And I am the first among the Muslims.' (Surah An-Nam: verses 162-163)

patient in their distress, and those who keep up prayer and spend out of that
which we have provided for them. '(Surah Hajj: verses 34-35)
