The importance and virtue of holiness in Islam

Glory be to Allah who is free from all filth and filthiness. One of his holy names is ‘Subbuhun’ (the holiest), ‘Quddusun’ (the most holy). Allah wants man to live a pure life. He said, ‘O family of the Prophet! Allah only wants to remove the impurity from you and purify you completely. '(Surah 33 Ahzab, verse: 33). He further said, "Rather, He wants to purify you."

One of the main characteristics of Islam is holiness. Holiness means lifelong holiness. The holiness of faith, the holiness of action, physical holiness, mental holiness, financial holiness, external holiness, inner holiness; The sanctity of language and words, the sanctity of taste, the sanctity of vision and attitude, and the sanctity of the environment. Purity in hearing, purity in vision, and purity in thought are the prerequisites and aids of holy living. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, ‘Holiness is a part of faith.’ In another narration, ‘Holiness is half of faith.’ (Muslim, Mishkat, page: 36).

Islam begins with holiness. The essence of faith in Islam is 'Kalima Tayyiba'. The name Kalima Tayeba means ‘Holy Word’ or ‘Sanctifying Word’. By this proclamation faith is sanctified; Man is freed from all kinds of wrongdoings, including sinfulness, blasphemy, and polytheism, so it is called Kalima Tayyiba, or "Holy Word," or "Sanctifying Word."

According to Islamic law, in addition to spiritual purity, physical purity is also important. At the same time, Islam emphasizes the importance of maintaining holiness at all times, as well as the condition of holiness in worship. Purity has been made a prerequisite for performing these three acts of worship - praying, touching the Qur'an, and circumambulating the Kaaba. The first three of the seven obligatory conditions of the first part of the 13 essential obligatory parts of the prayers are related to holiness - the body is clean, the clothes are clean and the place of prayer is clean. One of the 19 reasons for breaking the prayers is to prostrate in an unclean place.

The two main ways to attain holiness are Ablution and bath. Allah says (interpretation of the meaning): "And He sends down water from the sky to purify you." (Sura-6 Anfal, verse: 11). ‘And I send down pure water from the sky.’ (Surah 25 Furqan, verse: 46). Regarding the four duties of Ablution, Allah says, ‘O you who believe! When you are ready for prayer, wash your face and your hands up to the elbows, massage your head and wash your feet up to the ankles. If you are unclean, you will be especially clean. If you are sick or do not get water, then perform tayammum with a holy soil. '(Surah 5 Mayidah, verse: 6). the tayammum is performed by the sacred soil in the inability to use water for Ablution and bathing needs (kuduri).

Regarding the purity of mind and place, Allah Ta'ala has instructed, "Do not associate anything with me and keep my house holy." (Surah 22 Hajj, verse: 26). Concerning the adoption of holy garments or the purification of clothing and the ablution of Allah’s command, ‘O you who are clothed! Arise, warn, and proclaim the supremacy of your Lord. Keep your garments clean, and keep away from uncleanness (Sura-64 Muddachchir, verses: 1-4). ' The place of worship for the worshipers is the instruction to keep the house of Allah holy, ‘and I commanded Ibrahim (a.s.) and Ishmael (a.s.) to keep my house holy; For those who circumambulate, those who perform itikaf, and those who bow and prostrate. '(Surat al-Baqara, verse: 125).

Holiness is a special quality of the Prophets. Their identity is stated in the Holy Qur'an, "Surely they are people who want to be most holy."(Sura-7 Araf, verse: 82; Sura-27 Namal, verse: 56). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said in a hadeeth about the virtue of Ablution, the eight gates of Paradise will be open for him, through which he will enter. '(Muslim: 234, Abu Dawud: 169, Nasai: 148, Tirmidhi: 55, Ibn Majah: 470, Musnad Ahmad: 122).
