Friday prayer

Friday prayer

In Islam, the Friday prayer or congregational prayer is a prayer that Muslims perform every Friday, instead of the Zuhr prayer. Muslims usually pray five times a day according to the direction of the sun, regardless of the time zone. In Arabic, Jumu'ah means Friday. In many Muslim countries, the weekend includes Fridays, among others, Fridays are half-days for school and some work.

"O you who believe! When the call to prayer is made on Friday, hasten to the remembrance of Allah and leave the business. It would be best for you if you only knew. Once the prayer is over, spread it all over the country and seek Allah's grace. And remember Allah much, that you may be successful." (Surah Jumu'ah: 9-10)

Importance of Friday prayer in Islam

Friday is a very dignified day for the Muslim Ummah. Allah has also given special status and features to many days-moments-months and moments in the world. One of them is Friday Prayer. The Qur'an-Sunnah describes the special status and characteristics of the day of Jumu'ah. Some of which are highlighted-

i. The best day

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, ‘Friday is the best day and the best day in the sight of Allah. In the sight of Allah, it is better than the days of Eid-ul-Azha and Eid-ul-Fitr. '(Ibn Majah)

He added, ‘On all the days when the sun rises; the best of these is Friday. On this day Adam (peace be upon him) was created and on this day he was admitted to Paradise and on this day he was expelled from Paradise. '(Muslim)

ii. Eid day

If Eid-ul-Fitr or Eid-ul-Azha falls on a Friday, the two Eids of the Muslim Ummah are celebrated together on that day. The Jews regret making Friday the day of Eid. In the narration of Hadith, it has come up as follows-

Narrated by Hazrat Ibn Abbas (RA), when he-

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “Whoever comes to the mosque in the morning after taking a good bath on Friday morning and sits near the Imam and listens attentively (to the khutbah) and remains silent, he will be rewarded for one year of prayer and fasting (Tirmidhi, Nasai)

v. Day of acceptance of prayers

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Surely there is a time on Friday when a Muslim prays to Allah for something good and He gives it to him. He said it was only a matter of time. '(Bukhari and Muslim); some say it is after the Asr prayers.

vi. Day of special worship

Friday is a day of special worship for Muhammad in the Ummah. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, ‘Allah has misled our previous ummah from Jumu’ah. The result was Sunday for the Jews. Then Allah brought us and showed us the way for Friday then Sat then Sunday. In the same way, they will be after us on the Day of Resurrection. We are the last of the inhabitants of the world, and on the Day of Resurrection, our judgment will be before Saba. '(Bukhari and Muslim)

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, ‘The Hour will be on Friday.’ (Muslim)

viii. The day to be free from fitnah

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, ‘If a Muslim dies on a Friday or on a Friday night, Allah will save him from the fitnah of the grave.’ (Tirmidhi)

According to Prophet (SAW), Friday is a day of special dignity and specialty. It is obligatory for everyone to offer Jumu'ah prayers during Zuhr on Friday. Since the dignity and features of Jumu'ah are many times greater than on other days, the worship of this day is also very important for the Muslim Ummah.

Therefore, a believing Muslim should do more and more prayers, worship, and recitation of the Qur'an, Darood, and tawba-istegfar on Friday. To act properly on the hadith. Not to abstain from the period of Jumu'ah.

ix. Day of Rewards

The hadith describes the virtue of appearing in the mosque as soon as possible on Friday. It has been narrated in the hadith-

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, 'Whoever takes a bath on the day of Janaabat, that is, to be cleansed from impurity, and then (first time) appears in the mosque, it is as if he was sacrificing a camel. And the person who went to the mosque for the second time was like sacrificing a cow. The third time he went, he was sacrificing a goat with horns. The fourth time he went, it was as if he had offered a chicken. The fifth time he went, it was as if he had offered an egg. Then when the Imam goes out, the angels (stop writing) come to the Imam and listen to the Zikr (khutbah). ‘(Bukhari)
