Trust in Allah | The duty of a Muslim is to trust in Allah

Trust in Allah

Trust in Allah

Trust in God/Allah, means the term for the Islamic concept of reliance on Allah or "trust in God's plan". It is seen as absolute trust in Allah and reliance on Him alone. It can also be referred to as God-consciousness. In fact, the Qur'an speaks of the fact that success is achieved only when there is trust in God/Allah and the believer is steadfast and obeys Allah's commands.

One writer wrote that one who trusts in God is like a child that seeks their mother's breast and always finds it. He says that like a child, he who trusts in God is always led to God.

According to Qur’an-

"And whoever puts their trust in God/Allah, then He alone is sufficient for them." (Quran 65:3)

“Put your trust in God/Allah if you are true believers.” (Quran 5:23)

Muslims Tawakkul or trust in Allah

Muslims trust in Allah. Allah Almighty has power over everything. So it is the duty of Muslims to trust in Allah. Almighty God himself declared this in the battle of Uhud. When the hypocrites appeared, the two groups of Muslims were afraid of the lack of population and lack of weapons. Then Allah revealed the verse to them and announced - 'It is the duty of Muslims to trust in God/Allah.' In the Qur'an, the incident is described as follows:

"And (remember) when you, (O Muhammad), left your family in the morning to post the believers at their stations for the battle (of Uhud) - and Allah is Hearing and Knowing. When two parties among you lost courage, Allah was their ally, and believers should put their trust in God/Allah. And already Allah gave you victory (at the Battle of Badr) when you were few in number. Then fear Allah. Perhaps you will be grateful." (Surah Al-Imran: Verse 121-123)

These verses were revealed in the battle of Uhud. Which took place on 6 Shawwal of 3 AH. A brief context of this is – In the Battle of Badr in 2 AH, the infidels suffered an exemplary defeat, 70 of their men were killed and 70 were captured. And this defeat was very humiliating and shameful for them. So they prepared for a very strong retaliatory war against the Muslims and their women also took part in it. Meanwhile, when the Muslims learned that three thousand infidels had pitched their war tents near the Uhud mountain, the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, consulted the Companions about this. They will fight from inside Madinah, or they will fight outside Madinah.

Some Companions suggested fighting from within Madinah, and Abdullah Ibn Ubayy, the leader of the hypocrites, also expressed this opinion. But some of the Sahaba who were not fortunate enough to take part in the Battle of Badr, motivated by enthusiasm, advocated fighting outside Madinah.

Prophet (saw) went inside Hujra and came out dressed in war clothes. Seeing that, the second dissenters repented. They thought that maybe we did not do the right thing by forcing the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to go outside Madinah to fight.

So they said-

"O Messenger of Allah! If you prefer to tackle from within the city, do so! He (the Prophet) said, "It is not proper for a Prophet, after having put on his war clothes, to go back or to take off his clothes without Allah's permission."

So a thousand Muslim warriors left for battle. Early in the morning when they reached a place called 'Shautwa', Abdullah ibn Ubai returned with his 300 companions saying that his opinion was not accepted. So what is the benefit of giving life for no reason?

Some Muslims were temporarily affected by this decision of his and their hearts became weak. (Ibn Kasir) Then Allah revealed the verse:

“When two parties among you lost courage, but Allah was their ally, and believers should put their trust in Allah.” (Surah Al-Imran: Verse 122)

Two of your parties resolved to show cowardice, while Allah was their helper. These two groups are Bani Haresa of the Aus tribe and Bani Salma of the Khazraj tribe. Both of them showed the visible weakness of Abdullah ibn Ubayy. In fact, there was no weakness in themselves, but they fell under this idea because of the small number and lack of equipment for their party.

Among these tribes, Hazrat Jaber Ibn Abdullah used to say, "Although this verse was revealed to us Banu Haresa and Banu Salama, and it is true that harsh words have been spoken to us in the verse, the good news of the phrase (ÙˆَاللَّÙ‡ُ ÙˆَÙ„ِÙŠُّÙ‡ُÙ…َا) has also been sent down targeting us. For this reason, it was not pleasant for us that this verse was not revealed. (Bukhari, Muslim)

The duty of a Muslim is to trust in Allah

At the end of the verse, it is said - 'It is the duty of Muslims to trust in Allah. It clearly states that after gathering numbers and equipment and weapons, trust should be placed in Allah alone. Bani Haresa and Bani Salma felt weak and timid when they saw the lack of equipment. It is remedied by trust in Allah.

Proper trust and confidence in Allah is the remedy for such bad advice. Basically, Tawakkul (full trust in Allah) is one of the best qualities for humans.

Hazrat Yad Ibn Ghanam Al-Ashari said, Umar (RA) made five people amirs in a row in the battle of Yarmouk and said that Abu Ubaidah Ibnul Jarrah would be the only amir when the war started.

When the war started, we wrote to Omar (RA) from the battlefield, that death is coming towards us. Send us help. Omar (RA) wrote in reply that, I have received the letter sent for help. I will find you the one who can help the most, whose army is always ready, that is - Allah Ta'ala. So you ask him for help.

Because Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) defeated the infidels on the day of Badr with fewer numbers and weapons than you. Therefore, when this letter of mine arrives, you will fight them and not communicate with me about it.

The narrator said, 'Then we fought and won the battle.' (Musnad Ahmad, Ibn Hibban)

So it is understood that the true helper of Muslims is Allah Ta'ala. And when a servant puts his trust in Allah, then Allah becomes him. The Muslim Ummah should trust in Almighty Allah.

In the next verse, the great Allah announced the victory of Badr and strengthened the morale of the Muslims-

Indeed, Allah helped you in the battle of Badr, when you were weak. So fear Allah, so that you show gratitude.' (Surah Al-Imran: Verse 123)

This verse draws attention to the battle of Badr - in which the Muslims showed complete piety and Allah gave them success. That is, remember when Allah helped you at Badr; but you were very few in number. And that battle was the battle of Badr.

The number of fighters in the battle of Badr was small and the war materials were also few. There were 313 Muslims in this war and the war material was also very little. Only two horses and seventy camels and the rest were infantry. Allah gave victory to the Muslim army at Badr because of the proper reliance of the Muslim army on Allah.

So a Muslim believer should always put his trust in Allah Almighty. Trust in God/Allah is the exclusive duty of the Muslim Ummah.
