The Qur'an
The
Qur'an is the central religious text of Islam, believed by Muslims to be a
revelation from Allah. It is organized into 114 chapters, which consist of
verses. Apart from its religious significance, it is widely considered to be
the greatest book of Arabic literature and has significantly influenced the
Arabic language. Muslims believe that the Qur'an was revealed orally by Allah
to the final prophet Muhammad (PBUH), through the archangel Gabriel, over a
period of approximately 23 years, beginning in the month of Ramadan, when
Muhammad (PBUH) was 40; and ending in 632, the year of his death. Muslims
consider the Quran to be the most important miracle of Muhammad (PBUH); proof
of his prophethood; and the conclusion of the various divine messages revealed
to Adam, including the Torah, the Psalms, and the Injil. The word Qur'an occurs
about 70 times in the text, and other names and words also refer to the Qur'an.
Virtues of reciting the Qur'an
The
Holy Qur'an is the beacon of guidance. The complete lifestyle of Muslims. This
Qur'an was revealed by the great Allah to Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) for a long
period of 23 years. The Qur'an is the source of overcoming all the crises of
human life and getting rid of the dangers and liberation of the hereafter.
Therefore, if a person leads his life by adhering to the Qur'an, he will never
go astray, and no one can lead him astray. Allah Rabbul Alamin says, 'this is
the book in which there is no room for doubt. It is a guide for the muttaqis.'
(Surah Baqarah, verse 2) A muttaqi is one who takes security from Allah's
displeasure and punishment by obeying Allah's orders and staying completely
away from His prohibitions. Only the muttaqis can be guided by the recitation of
the Qur'an.
Allah
also says, 'And this is the blessed Book which we have sent down. So follow him
and practice piety, that you may receive mercy.' (Surah Anayam, verse 155)
While introducing the Qur'an, Allah says, 'O people! Follow that which has been
sent down to you from your Lord in this Book, and do not follow any other
guardian in its stead, indeed few of you follow the advice.' (Surah A'raf,
verse 3) The Qur'an was revealed in Arabic for the convenience of mankind.
Allah says, "Thus have we sent down the Qur'an in Arabic, and detailed in
it the warning that they may fear, or that it may become an admonition for
them." (Surat al-Ta-ha, verse 113)
On
the authority of Hazrat Aisha (RA), the Messenger (PBUH) said, 'Whoever recites
the Qur'an with stumbling and finds it difficult, he will earn a double reward
for this recitation.''(Muslim) Hazrat Ali (RA) reported that the Prophet (PBUH)
said, 'He who reads the Qur'an and memorizes it, then knows what is halal is
halal and what is forbidden as haraam, Allah will grant him
Paradise.''(Tirmidhi, Mishkat)
What
can be a greater reward for a believing Muslim? Allah Ta’ala says in the
Qur'an, "Surely those who recite the Book of Allah, the Qur'an, establish
prayer, and spend secretly or openly from the sustenance given by Allah, they
can expect a business that will never perish." (Surah Fatir, verse 29)
So,
in this verse, Allah himself has urged us to recite the Qur'an and has also
emphasized the importance of regular prayer and charity. There is a painful
punishment for those who disobey the Qur'an. Allah says, 'Who is more unjust
than he, who is reminded of the verses of his Lord and turns away from them,
and whatever sin his hands have earned.'(Surah Al-Kahf, verse 57)
Conclusion
So
the recitation of the Qur'an and May we save ourselves from the punishment of
the Hereafter by acting accordingly. May Allah bless us all with reading the
Qur'an every day?
